Grupthink 1.2 Beta Release Notes
Thursday, July 6th, 2006 by Steven S. -- Product DesignGrupthink 1.2 Beta will be released on July 6, 2006
Key New Features
- Answer Ranking more Important
Now, answer ranking in your ballot has a much more significant effect on the overall results. The “score” for each answer now appears under the “Vote” buttons - Grūps!
Discuss private topics among people in your grūp! - Improved topic lists in Search
Now, all topic lists are listed in order of activity, and you can optionally sort them by the number of voters. - New database technology
We have switched from MySQL to PostgreSQL. As much as we love MySQL, PostGreSQL will better accommodate our performance, feature, and stability needs.
Other Enhancements
- “Report a Bug” link in the footer of every page. Please use it!
- MegaTags:
Choose from an assortment of preset tags for your topic. This will improve Grupthink searchability and take some of the guesswork out of tagging your topics. - Best Friends: Rank your friends! Your top 10 will always appear on your home/profile page.
- Rank changes in your ballot are now recorded automatically (no need to click “save rank)
- Mark answers as “Not Relevant” (too many of these, and the answer will be hidden from default view)
- Larger, paginated “Active Topics” list
- New helpful prompt for first-time users, reminding them to vote for and rank multiple answers
- Simultaneous, duplicate answers are now prevented more effectively.
- You can now mark your answers as “adult” (instead of relying on other Grupies to “mod” them).
- Many, many other fixes, optimizations, and minor enhancements that are too numerous to mention.
We’ll really need your help in this release, since we’ve made more system-wide changes than ever before. We know there will be bugs, so please use the new “Report a bug” link at the bottom of every page when you encounter problems. Welcome to the 1.2 Beta!

Is it slower? My pages keep… Well when I click links they make a click noise and nothing happens. So when I hit refresh the same thing happens. So basically my only choice is to close out the window. I don’t know anything about computers or I would explain it better.

SarcasticKisses, thanks for the feedback.
We are still tweaking things, and occasionally causing glitches and slow-downs. Keep on clicking around and see if it still seems slow?

Also, try clicking the refresh button on your browser. You may have some old scripts cached in your browser that are incompatible with the current release. Hope that helps, but let us know if you keep having problems.

I really like some of the new changes. It may take a little getting used to, since I only just started on Grupthink. I am, though, having some trouble with the whole Grup thing, though. For instance, why is there no “Next Topic” option on private pages? (Its absence really sticks you.) I guess that’s something y’all are working on, though, so I hope I’m not redundant in bringing it to your attention. Anyway, great work!

The new “you must be a member of this group” polls have a big flaw: they don’t have a link to the next question (I like to browse through most recent questions), so if you hit one of these pages you have to go all the way back to the long mostrecent listing in order to continue on your way. Not cool.
Also, I can’t seem to turn off the “most recent” filter. Which means I can only browse in chronological order, instead of reverse chronological.

Sorry, that next-topic/Grup topic thing is a bug. Grups were not intended to work that way, and it will be fixed tomorrow.
